WSOP Axes European Tournament Series In 2014

wsopCard Player – On Monday, the World Series of Poker announced big changes to its bracelet events held outside of the United States.

Earlier this year, the WSOP held its first WSOP Asia-Pacific, and that will now be held in even numbered years, while the WSOP Europe will be held in odd numbered years.

Next year’s WSOP APAC is expected to take place from Oct. 1-17 at Crown Melbourne and feature ten WSOP gold bracelet events.

There is no word on what the 2015 WSOPE will have to offer.

The WSOPE had been running annually since 2007.

“We are excited to return to Melbourne in 2014 for WSOP APAC and the beginning of a new era for our international championships,” WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart said in a statement.

“The WSOP standard is bigger, better and different. Moving to a rotational approach, with one international event per year allows for better organization and more marketing in each region. We also want to do right by the players, and provide more value for their travel dollar. There is a glut of poker tournaments around the world, and our vision is to each year put on a single global showcase that can’t be missed.”

The complete schedule and dates for the WSOP APAC should be announced in early 2014.

The WSOP is owned by Caesars Entertainment, which just launched an online poker site in the state of New Jersey. It also has web poker offerings in Nevada.

And of course there is the summer WSOP, which has been running annually for decades.
