After a recent hearing at the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, Wynn Boston Harbor President Robert DeSalvio told the press that the company will “definitely” rebrand the project. When asked about what the new brand of the towering integrated resort will be, DeSalvio didn’t reveal any details, only saying that it is “under active consideration right now”. But some recent internet domain name acquisitions made by the company point to the potential use of the “Encore” brand, at least in relation to this project. According to the paper, Wynn Resorts Holdings has registered at least nine internet domains using this brand, including encorebostonharborcasino.com, encorebostonjobs.com, and encorebostonresort.com.
The “Encore” is a luxury resort in Las Vegas, one of the few properties owned by the company that isn’t preceded by the “Wynn” brand, so this seems like a good choice. The Encore Las Vegas is a recognized luxury resort with high-profile nightclubs, 60,000 square feet of convention space, 27,000 square feet of retail space, and an 80,000 square feet casino. The resort has been awarded an AAA Five Diamond Award each year since its opening and is considered one of the finest casino resorts in the world.
For those of you who didn’t follow the news, Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn has been exposed as a serial offender by an in-depth investigation completed by The Wall Street Journal this February. As a result, Wynn stepped down from his position as a CEO of his company (including Wynn Boston Harbor), citing the “avalanche of bad publicity” the scandal has created and the environment where “a rush to judgment takes precedence over everything else, including the facts.” He was replaced by Matt Maddox, president of Wynn Resorts since 2013, who has joined the company in 2002 after working at Caesars Entertainment.
