Our gambling news for this week finds the expansion of US sports betting continues with Florida, Maryland, and Louisiana jumping into the regulated ring. And with the addition of mobile sports betting in those states, US online gambling also gets a shove in the right direction.
Hello players! Thanks so much for joining me on another edition of This Week in Gambling, where for the past several weeks we’ve been discussing casinos opening post pandemic in Las Vegas and Reno and Atlantic City and all across America! But this week, we’re shifting gears a little bit… for this week’s big story!
Some of you out there may not care about US sports betting, and that’s okay. However, you should still be paying attention to the expansion of betting on events across America, and understand its connection to the expansion of online gambling in America! You see, wagering on sports is now legal in 28 states and the District of Columbia. And in many of those states, sports wagers on mobile devices has been permitted. But don’t let the name fool you. Betting on sports using your mobile device is betting on sports over the Internet. So the expansion of mobile sports betting is in fact the expansion of online gambling.
Once states realize that they can successfully regulate and profit from online sports betting it’s just a matter of time before they turn to online casino games and poker. And with that in mind we head to Florida. Betting on sports in Florida has just been legalized, and that’s a big deal because Florida is the third largest state in America by population. And yes, once the activity officially launches Florida will be accepting mobile/online bets.
Meanwhile, sports betting in Maryland and Louisiana has also been approved recently. And yes, mobile bets of sports will be allowed there, too! Plus, these 10 states all have active legislation right now that could regulate wagering on sports within their borders… and there are some pretty big names on that list! So you see, the expansion of bets on sporting events is not just good for our personal freedoms or states rights, it’s also a doorway… a gateway into bigger and better things!
If you’re a fan of casino table games have I got a special treat for you this week: a brand new game review we did for the Vegas 3 Poker from our friends at AGS,where players compete against the dealer, with optional side bets, to make their best three card poker hand! You can watch this review and reviews for other table games, along with slot machine and skill game videos, when you visit our YouTube channel.
Finally this week, the state of Tennessee sports betting was officially launched just six short months ago. Yet already they’ve become the quickest state in history to reach the $1 billion dollar mark! And that’s pretty impressive considering that half the bets in the state were placed on mud wrestling and tractor pulls. God bless them rednecks!
