Sports betting in Connecticut, including online betting, has been approved and signed by the Governor… but now we must wait for approval by the Federal Government. But why is Federal approval needed? Because the deal involves the states Tribal Gaming interests. Don’t look now, but sports betting in Tennessee has now collected more than $1 billion in wagers since the industry launched in November, even as wagers slowed down in April. Now with $1.1 billion in six months, the Volunteer State became the quickest legal sports jurisdiction to reach the $1 billion milestone in U.S. history, according to PlayTenn, which tracks the Tennessee gaming market. “With an online-only launch during the NFL season and at the beginning of a month, Tennessee kicked off its sports betting industry under nearly perfect circumstances,” said Nicole Russo, analyst for PlayTenn.com. “The circumstances gave the…

New York Online Sports Betting Becomes Law

After much delay and political fighting, New York online sports betting was finally signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo. Now, the real work begins. The goal is to have online and mobile sports bets fully regulated in time to let residents bet on the next Super Bowl. That means writing the rules, processing applications, and launching within nine months. Once applications for running a web based sports book are submitted, the Gambling Commission will have 150 days to process them and select just two providers.
