New Jersey Sports Betting will Not Happen
New Jersey will not be able to offer sports betting after its appeal against a previous ruling failed. The United States Court of Appeals decided by a majority of 10-2 that a law passed by New Jersey in 2014 that would have allowed sports betting at its casinos and racetracks did not comply with the federal Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) which prohibits states from authorising, sponsoring, operating or licensing sports betting. The sports betting bill was first approved by New Jersey voters in 2011, with the country’s four major professional sports leagues beginning legal action against the…
Maximizing Your Wins From Sports Betting
Everyone likes to have a punt occasionally and try their hand at sports betting, however, few people actually ever win anything significant from it. Many people whether they’re gamblers of other types of betting or just sports enthusiasts will never win big from sports betting because they don’t understand what they’re doing and put the time into mastering it. You’ll always get casual sports betters who have a punt perhaps every weekend on their favourite sports team and use that as their only criteria for picking a winner. Or they may look at something like a home ground advantage but…
Pennsylvania Targets Federal Sports Betting Ban
The Pennsylvania House Gaming Oversight Committee has passed a bill that could lead to the US state lifting a federal ban on sports betting. The Committee approved HR619 by a vote of 23-1, but the bill must pass a number of other steps before it can be adopted as state legislation. HR619 proposes the US Congress lifts a federal ban on sports betting in order to allow states in which gambling is regulated to legalise sports betting through licensed facilities. The resolution also highlights widespread illegal sports betting across the US and that a regulated market would suit all parties….
US Sports Leagues Wheel & Deal with Sports Betting Firms
After nearly a century of zero-tolerance policies that treated gambling as a mortal threat, U.S. sports leagues are rapidly cutting deals with companies involved in sports betting. To varying degrees, the leagues are partnering — openly and in secret — with oddsmakers, betting prognosticators and data providers that make sports wagering possible in the digital age, according to interviews with a range of sports gambling officials and experts. The deals lay the groundwork for the NFL, the NBA, the NHL and Major League Baseball to profit if sports betting is legalized in the United States, as many experts predict. But…
New Jersey to Try Sports Betting Case… Again
New Jersey’s effort to offer legalized sports betting was given new life Wednesday when a federal appeals court agreed to reconsider its decision to prohibit gambling on games. The move vacated an Aug. 25 decision by the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in Philadelphia that upheld a lower-court ruling that had voided state legislation on sports gambling. The judges held then, in a 2-to-1 decision, that New Jersey’s efforts to allow casinos and racetracks to take bets violated the federal Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, or Paspa, which was passed in 1992. “We acknowledge New…
New Jersey Loses Sports Betting Bid…. Again!
The federal ban on sports betting in all but four states was upheld Tuesday, dealing a blow to New Jersey’s latest effort to expand gambling options to help its struggling casinos and racetracks. But the 2-1 ruling by a panel of the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia left the door open for New Jersey to further appeal the matter to the full court. “We are reviewing the opinion, and the dissent, and considering our legal options,” said Leland Moore, a spokesman for the state Attorney General’s Office. The state has been trying since 2009 to legalize sports…
