Japan May Ban Poker and Sports Betting from Casinos
The ever-tightening restrictions being touted for Japan’s integrated resorts could see skill games including poker and sports betting banned from casino floors. According to national newspaper The Mainichi, a list of recommendations submitted to the government by the Expert Committee last month includes stringent guidelines on the types of games that should be allowed in the nation’s casinos with key features being that they can be easily controlled by the operator, can only be played at casinos and, most significantly, are based on chance. If enforced, the guidelines would limit the games available to the likes of baccarat, blackjack, roulette and sic bo…
National Indian Gaming Association Supports Sports Betting Reform
The National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA) has announced that it will join forces with the American Sports Betting Coalition (ASBC), a group which is campaigning for the repeal or amendment of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). ASBC is primarily run by the American Gaming Association (AGA) and represents law enforcement officials, states rights’ advocates, policymakers and the gaming industry. NIGA represents 184 gaming tribes throughout the continental US. It primarily aims to repeal or amend the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (1992), which currently prohibits sports betting in anywhere apart from Nevada, Delaware, Oregon and Montana….
Big Surprise! California Tribes Oppose Sports Betting!
California Tribes represented by the California Nations Indian Gaming Association (CNIGA) have warned that a sports betting bill in the state would violate the tribal-state compacts. After the announcement that assembly member Adam Gray introduced a constitutional amendment that would allow California to offer sports betting in the state if the federal law changes, the CNIGA said that it would violate the tribal-state compacts. Steve Stallings, chairman of the California Nations Indian Gaming Association (CNIGA), warned that the constitutional amendment that paves the way for a legal sports betting market in California violates the tribal-state compacts. “Historically, the association has…
Could New Jersey Sports Betting Hurt Las Vegas?
The law of unintended consequences could apply to the New Jersey sports betting case. Many are focused on the prospect of the US Supreme Court ruling in favor of the state in its quest to offer legal sports betting within its borders. That could open the possibility of states around the country changing their laws to offer sports betting, if the court rules that PASPA is unconstitutional. PASPA is the law that bans almost all forms of sports wagering, outside of Nevada. But there’s a flipside to that possibility: Namely, SCOTUS could rule that PASPA is unconstitutional and shut down…

While we wait to see how that battle plays out, we’re also looking at online gambling news coming out of the state. This week’s special offer is from the SpinIt Casino.
Supreme Court in Limbo Over New Jersey Sports Betting
Monday was expected to be the day the U.S. Supreme Court would announce whether it will hear New Jersey’s years-long effort to legalize sports betting at casinos and racetracks. But a decision never came, either for or against the state. Now, experts say, the nation’s highest court could make an announcement Tuesday — though even that is uncertain. “This is the Groundhog Day of sports betting,” joked Daniel Wallach, a gaming and sports law attorney with Becker & Poliakoff in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Set to take a summer recess, the Supreme Court discussed the case in a “cleanup conference” on…
