Oregon Sports Betting Pushed by State Lottery

Lottery officials intend to launch Oregon sports betting in time for football season. The lottery hopes to put the state at the forefront of a national sports betting bonanza after a U.S. Supreme Court decision last May cleared the way for every state to get into the business. The numbers are potentially huge. Ten months since New Jersey sports bets went live, its “handle” (total dollars wagered) has topped $1 billion per quarter. Investment bank Morgan Stanley last November predicted that American sports betting could reach $215 billion a year by 2025. “There is a huge pent-up demand,” said David…

Iowa Regulates Sports Betting

The state of Iowa regulates sports betting after Governor Kim Reynolds signed proposed legislation on Monday which authorizes gambling on college and professional sports. Lawmakers had approved the bill on April 22, and the proposed law was only awaiting the governor’s signature to become effective. There are now eight states in addition to Nevada that have introduced full-scale legalized sports gambling and opened sports books ever since the United States Supreme Court voted in May 2018 to allow states to pass their own laws either allowing or prohibiting betting on professional and college sports. Iowa’s legislation allows residents 21 years…

Another Hope for Mobile Indiana Sports Betting

After disagreement over the possibility of remote gambling, mobile Indiana sports betting is looking more and more like a real possibility. The state conference committee is reinserting provisions for the apps into the bill as it approaches the finish line. Disagreements across chambers primarily involved non-sports aspects of the bill concerning adjustments to casino licenses and location. As expected, most of Monday’s hearing orbited around those provisions. Mobile was one of the few sticking points within the sports betting language. The Senate bill authorized statewide mobile wagering as passed, but narrow opposition in the House nearly killed the bill entirely….

Colorado Sports Betting Makes a Push

Colorado sports betting could become a reality as soon as next May, if a recently introduced bill on the matter gains traction in the state Legislature and voters approve the legalization of sports gambling in the upcoming November vote. Democratic House Majority Leader Alec Garnett and Republican Minority Leader Patrick Neville introduced the bill late on Thursday. The piece of legislation, if passed, would place a sports betting question on the November ballot. State residents would be asked whether a 10% flat tax on net proceeds from regulated sports gambling should be implemented. The ballot question will be concerned with…

North Carolina Sports Betting Bill Makes Progress

A North Carolina sports betting bill that would allow the activity on tribal lands has been passed by the state Senate, and transferred to the House of Representatives. S154, introduced by Republican Senator Jim Davis, would allow tribal gaming facilities to offer sports betting alongside other forms of gambling currently permitted under existing compacts with the state. It was passed by the Senate at its second reading, with 43 Senators voting in favor and seven against. This means the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, currently the only tribe that has agreed a compact with the state, would be able to…
