iGaming Business – The Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Bill is to enter into UK law after it was granted Royal Assent by the British monarchy. The new legislation amends the 2005 Gambling Act and will enable the Gambling Commission licensing system to cover all UK remote gambling operators. Under the previous Act, remote gambling operators that located their remote gambling equipment overseas did not need a remote operating licence from the Gambling Commission regulatory body, where as UK-based companies were required to have one. Most in Singapore back move to restrict remote gambling
Channel News Asia – Preliminary findings from a feedback gathering exercise on the government’s intent to restrict remote gambling activities in Singapore were released in Parliament on Thursday. Second Home Affairs Minister S Iswaran said most respondents supported the restrictions. Remote gambling refers to gambling via the internet or any communication device, such as a smartphone. There were however mixed views on whether a limited form of remote gambling should be permitted. Mr Iswaran said some called for a complete ban on such activities.
