Pennsylvania Online Gambling: How Close?
Could gambling expansion grab a seat at the Pennsylvania budget negotiating table? In a sense, it already has. Lawmakers in both the Republican-controlled Senate and House are vetting proposals for Internet-based gaming with the potential to turn every digital device – at least those in the hands of adults – into a “gaming position.” Another perennial, authorizing gaming machines in bars and taverns, is also getting a fresh look. This is not, in bettors’ parlance, a lock. The Republican leaders still publicly list pension reform and liquor privatization as their top budget priorities. It is also not clear that either…
Pennsylvania’s Online Gambling Market Worth
It’s been one year since Econsult Solutions presented its gambling study to Pennslyvania’s Legislative Budget and Finance Committee. That study concluded that the PA market for regulated online gambling (casino and poker) was worth some $184 million in first year revenue, and $307 million in ongoing revenues. Since, two of Pennsylvania’s neighbors – New Jersey and Delaware – have wrapped up their first year in the industry, and are deep enough into their second that meaningful year-over-year comparisons can be drawn. What follows are updated revenue projections for Pennsylvania’s iGaming market, utilizing data from Econsult and other reputable sources, and…
Fantasy Sports Bill Considered in Pennsylvania
A group of representatives in Pennsylvania has put forward a new bill that would allow casinos in the state to offer on-site daily fantasy sports contests. Headed up by Representative George Dunbar, House Bill 1197 was referred to the House of Committee on Gaming Oversight last week. Details of the bill include the requirement for casinos to hold a licence in order to operate tournaments, with the bill only covering daily fantasy sports contests in land-based facilities. The licensing fee would cost $50,000 (€43,900) while all tournament vendors that work with a licensee to provide contests would have to pay…
Pennsylvania’s Online Gambling Poll
Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson, the nation’s leading critic of gambling on the Internet, funded a poll released Wednesday that showed nearly three-quarters of registered voters in Pennsylvania oppose online gambling. Shocking results? Not to Rep. John Payne, R-Dauphin, author of a bill to legalize online gambling. Poll results done by independent organizations are more legitimate than polls funded by someone like Adelson, the Las Vegas Sands CEO, who has a vested interest in the outcome… “I don’t hold much credibility to the survey because of the way it was done,” Payne said. The poll, conducted by Brock McCleary, president of…
Pennsylvania’s online gaming partnership with 888
Online gaming operator 888 has reportedly struck a deal with land-based facility the Mount Airy Casino Resort to provide internet gaming services in the US state of Pennsylvania. Although Pennsylvania does not currently allow online gaming, a number of bills have been introduced in the state in an effort to regulate such activity. Various reports in the US media suggest in the event that legislation passes in the state, then 888 and Mount Airy will be allowed to offer internet gaming and online poker services in Pennsylvania. Under the agreement, 888 would use Mount Airy’s interactive gaming licence to launch…
Pennsylvania Gets Anti-Online Gambling Bill
Poker News Daily – A new anti-online gambling bill has been introduced in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, aiming to make all online betting illegal in the Commonwealth. Introduced by State Representative Thomas P. Murt (R – District 152), it is the polar opposite of the two pro-online gambling bills that are currently before the House. Murt’s bill is actually just a reintroduction of former State Representative Paul Clymer’s bill from last year, one which had the backing of Las Vegas Sands CEO Sheldon Adelson. And whereas bills that look to explicitly legalize online poker in a state are naturally…
