New York Online Poker Bill is Back

New York’s chances to become the fifth US state to authorize and regulate online poker remain intact for 2018, with two still-active measures remaining on the state’s legislative docket for consideration later this year. The first of the two bills which have now been returned to their respective State Senate and Assembly Committees is the S3898 measure proposed by State Sen. John Bonacic. Bonacic, a Republican from New York’s 42nd Senate District, has introduced an online-poker legalization bill in every legislative session since 2014. Since New York’s state legislature conducts its business in two-year sessions, the S3898 bill that Bonacic…

The Move to Save New York Net Neutrality

New York Net Neutrality may not be dead yet. The repeal of net neutrality rules may allow Internet service providers and mobile carriers to block or throttle services at will, reserving the fastest bandwidth for companies who pay the toll, but the law may not be the only way to keep companies in line … However, New York is one of several states which plans to enact their own statewide net neutrality laws, which would make it illegal for ISPs or carriers to introduce a two-speed Internet. The New York legislature has taken a serious look at the legalization of online poker in each of the last two years. And unlike efforts in other states, the bills were…

New York Assembly Folds Online Poker for 2017

Those hoping that New York will legalize online poker this year shouldn’t bet on it. Though the Senate recently passed the bill, Assembly Democrats, who discussed the issue behind closed doors last week, are not expected to take it up before the legislative session’s scheduled end Wednesday. “There was some opposition; we’ll pick it up next year more than likely,” said bill sponsor Assemblyman Gary Pretlow (D-Westchester County). New York Online Poker Bill Adds “Bad Actor” Clause

A bill that could lead to the legalisation of online poker in the US state of New York has been amended to include reference to so-called ‘bad actors’. Put forward by State Senator John Bonacic, Senate Bill S3898 has already been approved by the New York Senate Finance Committee and will soon go to a full vote at the State Senate. However, prior to the third and final reading of the bill before the full Senate vote, it was decided to amended the bill with the addition of a bad actor clause. The term, which has also been included in…
