North Jersey – As Fort Lauderdale sports law attorney Daniel L. Wallach has spotted, the U.S. Supreme Court last week filed an order extending the time to file responses in the potential landmark sports betting case from March 17 until April 21. Wallach notes that the extension could mean no resolution before the end of the June term, so backers – and opponents – may need to be patient. Compatible Poker – The Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, agrees that the price tag on pursuing the legalization of sports betting in the state is hefty, but he says that the cost is worth it in the long run. According to Matt Friedman, a reporter for the Newark Star-Ledger, the state is expected to pay over $2.3 million to legal firms to help overturn the federal Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), with New Jersey using firms “that employ some of the biggest names in the legal world”. North Jersey – The Third Circuit Court of Appeals’ rejection two weeks ago of New Jersey’s petition to legalize sports gambling at Atlantic City casinos is described as a “net negative” in a filing released Friday by Moody’s.
