The American Gaming Association has joined with several states the New Jersey sports betting battle. The AGA and the states have filed  briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of New Jersey’s attempts to offer betting on sporting events in the state. New Jersey has made several appeals as courts have repeatedly struck down its attempts to overthrow the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, which bans sports betting in all but four states. Petition granted. The United States Supreme Court has agreed to hear New Jersey’s appeal in the state’s long-running quest to offer legalized sports betting. The US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) has delayed a decision as to whether it will hear an appeal from New Jersey in its attempt to legalise sports betting in the state. According to various reports in the US media, SCOTUS has requested a brief from the Solicitor General on the ongoing case, before considering taking the case at a later date. The US has an acting Solicitor General at present, although the position will be filled permanently after President-Elect Donald Trump takes office tomorrow (Friday). With his veto pen, Gov. Chris Christie all but ended the New Jersey sports betting efforts to institute sports betting at its casinos and race tracks. Christie’s office announced today that he nixed a bill (S2250) that would have allowed New Jersey to circumvent the 1992 federal law that bans sports betting in most states, after New Jersey’s challenges to the law in court failed. In doing so, Christie called federal law “sacrosanct,” while the sponsor of the bill, state Sen.
