Progressive Slots Link Nevada, New Jersey Casinos

Las Vegas Sun – A long-planned initiative to create bigger jackpots by linking casino slot machines in New Jersey and Nevada is up and running. The New Jersey Gaming Enforcement Division says the progressive slots system links 100 machines in Atlantic City with 600 in Nevada. The progressive jackpots grow in size as more gamblers play them. “The division is pleased to have been at the forefront of passing regulations and reaching out to other jurisdictions to enable this expanded gaming opportunity for Atlantic City,” said director David Rebuck. “Much like multi-state lotteries, this new technology and cooperative regulatory agreements…

Is Legal Online Poker coming to a state near you?

4Flush – Legal online poker is currently available in three US states, Nevada, Delaware, and New Jersey, and it may soon be coming to a state near you thanks to the 2011 reversal of their interpretation of the Wire Act –after declaring the Wire Act applied to all forms of online gambling back in 2002, the DOJ now feels it only applies to sports-betting. This new interpretation opened the door for states to pass online gambling legislation, and with the federal government unlikely to take action either way, it appears online gambling will be left up to each state for…

Nevada lawmakers unlikely to sponsor draft online gaming ban

Las Vegas Review Journal – A draft bill that would legalize poker playing on the Internet is being floated on Capitol Hill, but Nevada Sen. Dean Heller said Tuesday there is no sign that it will move in any direction. Heller said he has been briefed on the bill by Caesars Entertainment Corp. lobbyist Haley Barbour. The Las Vegas-based company reportedly wrote the draft. A purported copy of the Caesars bill examined by the Las Vegas Review-Journal would effectively ban forms of Internet gambling, but carve out an exemption for poker. It is similar to what Nevada has already legalized…

Proposal to link video games, slot machines passes Nevada committee

Allowing gambling on video game competition may be a wave of the future in Nevada. “The market is huge,” says Christopher LaPorte, owner of Insert Coins, a video arcade in downtown Las Vegas. This would be a new way to invigorate the gaming industry, he says. A legislative study committee recommended Nevada change its law to permit the state Gaming Commission to decide on ways to expand the gaming market. Dan Reaser, a Reno lawyer representing game manufacturers, advanced the proposal. The idea would be to allow the Gaming Commission to approve rules to permit skill-based games and also to…

Nevada governor skeptical about betting on elections

Las Vegas Sun – Gov. Brian Sandoval isn’t sold on allowing Nevada to become the first state to permit betting on the presidential and other federal elections. “As I think through it, unless I’m convinced otherwise, it is not something I would support,” Sandoval said today. He described himself as “more of a traditionalist” when it comes to betting. “The state has done fine on sports and horse race betting and other events,” he said. The governor hasn’t taken a public position on the issue until now. State Sen. Tick Segerblom, D-Las Vegas, is pushing a proposal to open up…

Nevada Online Poker Revenue Falls in April

Card Player – Nevada’s three online sites collected a total of $792,000 in revenue during the month of April, according to a state reported released Wednesday morning. That figure amounts to a decline of 14.5 percent compared to March’s $926,000. February’s figure was $824,000. February marked the first time ever that a Silver State gaming revenue report included online poker figures. The state was keeping the numbers under wraps until a third casino firm, South Point, started offering games. Station Casinos, which debuted games in spring 2013, and Caesars Entertainment, which kicked things off in late summer 2013, are the…
