There are at least 1.3 billion reasons why the operators of DraftKings and FanDuel are beginning to sweat. The two largest daily fantasy sports companies were each valued at $1.3 billion this year by the investment community. Both companies, fueled by hedge funds, investment firms, billionaires, and professional sports leagues, were considering initial public offerings sometime in 2016. That path met a roadblock. Fantasy Sports Are Gambling Says Nevada Board
Well this is interesting. The friendly folk regulating casinos Nevada say fantasy sports are gambling. At least for now. Anyone who has watched professional football this season has seen the ubiquitous advertising and promotion for pay-to-play daily fantasy sports sites such as DraftKings and FanDuel. On October 15th, 2015, the Nevada Gaming Control Board issued a notice in which they concluded that fantasy sports are gambling under state law. Nevada Bans DraftKings and FanDuel
Nevada gaming regulators banned unlicensed daily fantasy sports websites from providing their product to Silver State customers, saying the activity constitutes sports wagering. In an order filed by the Gaming Control Board Thursday, the agency said daily fantasy sports websites, such as DraftKings and FanDuel, can apply for a Nevada gaming license to operate a sports pool. Tropicana Purchase Approved by Nevada Regulators
The Nevada Gaming Commission state regulatory body has given its approval to Penn National Gaming’s earlier-announcement of the Tropicana purchase. As reported by iGaming Business in April, US casino and racetrack operator Penn National struck a deal worth $360 million (€314.2 million) to take ownership of the facility in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bryan Micon, former operator of the ‘Seals with Clubs’ Bitcoin poker site, will this week attend a court hearing in the US state of Nevada after being charged with operating an unlicensed gaming website.
