Net Neutrality Returns as Donald Trump Leaves
Our gambling news this week focuses on the return of Net Neutrality rules, and that means the exit of FCC Chairman Ajit Pai. The return of Net Neutrality will ensure a better internet for online casinos, poker, and sports betting. Also, as another state prepares to launch sports betting, we look at how large the industry could grow over the next few years. Well, here we are barely two weeks into the brand new year and already things are just as bad crazy as they were last year! We’ve got people storming the Capitol building! We’ve got a President that’s…
Net Neutrality to Make a Comeback
With the presidency of Donald Trump coming to an end, expectations are that Net Neutrality will return with the appointment of a new Chairman of the FCC. The current Chairman, Ajit Pai, is a Trump appointee. He has announced that he is leaving office by January 20th, leaving a legacy of higher internet prices. Pai helped to destroy Net Neutrality during his time at the helm of the FCC. And, as predicted, ISP costs to users have gone up since that time while performance has remained stagnant. Net Neutrality is the principle that all traffic on the internet must be…
Net Neutrality Death? Here Come Internet “Fast Lanes”
Who’s afraid of the Net Neutrality Death? Well, we’ve been warning our readers of the perils of killing Net Neutrality for some time now. While many agreed with our position on the importance of keeping a fair and balanced Internet, some have called us crazy. To those few, we can now gently say “told ya so” and point to the beginning of the end. Very quietly, Cox Communication is now offering a new service… an Internet “fast lane“, if you will. A service that will reduce latency, disconnections, and lag spikes… unlike those poor fools on the regular, not-quite-as-fast Internet….
Net Neutrality Set to End June 11th
The Federal Communications Commission said in a notice filed Thursday that new rules repealing the net neutrality protections are set to take effect on June 11. “Now, on June 11, these unnecessary and harmful internet regulations will be repealed and the bipartisan, light-touch approach that served the online world well for nearly 20 years will be restored,” Ajit Pai, chairman of the FCC, said in a statement Thursday. The Republican-led FCC voted along party lines in December to repeal the Obama-era net neutrality rules, which were intended to prevent internet providers from blocking, speeding up, or slowing down access to…
US Senate Moves to Save Net Neutrality
The Senate on Wednesday voted to reinstate the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) net neutrality rules, passing a bill that has little chance of advancing in the House but offers net neutrality supporters and Democrats a political rallying point for the midterm elections. Democrats were able to force Wednesday’s vote using an obscure legislative tool known as the Congressional Review Act (CRA). CRA bills allow Congress, with a majority vote in each chamber and the president’s signature, to overturn recent agency moves. Three Republicans — Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and John Kennedy (La.) — joined the 49 Senate…
Over 20 States Sue FCC Over Net Neutrality Decision
In the first high-profile attempt to block the FCC’s rollback of net neutrality rules through the courts, 22 attorneys general have filed a lawsuit challenging the agency’s repeal plan. Led by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, the petition asks a court to find that the FCC’s plan runs afoul of federal law. “An open internet — and the free exchange of ideas it allows — is critical to our democratic process,” Schneiderman said in a statement announcing the suit, filed on behalf of 21 states and the District of Columbia. “The repeal of net neutrality would turn internet service…
