USA Today – This is the month in Las Vegas you’ve been waiting for. Starting this weekend, everything college basketball takes over this town. The Orleans Arena hosts both the West Coast Conference (March 6-11) and Western Athletic Conference (March 12-15), the Pac-12 (March 12-15) plays at the MGM Grand Garden Arena while Mountain West (March 12-15) tips off at Thomas & Mack. After that, things start to get serious, when thousands of college basketball aficionados take over Las Vegas (and its sports books). Genting to Start Building Resorts World Las Vegas
To the naked eye, not much has changed in the year that passed since Malaysia-based Genting Group announced plans to build the $2 billion to $7 billion Resorts World Las Vegas on 87 acres on the Strip. The concrete-and-steel structure — remnants of the unfinished Echelon development mothballed by Boyd Gaming Corp. in 2008 — remain standing. A year later, other than a few signs touting the coming of the hotel-casino, the site appears unchanged. But Resorts World Las Vegas is alive and well. Genting representatives and government officials say the development — the Strip’s first new resort complex since…
UK man hit by truck in Las Vegas
Fox 5 – A man from the United Kingdom was hit by a truck while crossing a street near the Las Vegas Strip on Tuesday morning. The crash happened about 9:15 a.m. at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Linq Lane. Las Vegas Metro police said the 54-year-old British man was crossing Flamingo in a crosswalk when the driver of a flatbed truck turned left onto Flamingo on a green light. They said the truck driver didn’t see the man in the crosswalk and hit him. They said the pedestrian was thrown to the ground. Police said the victim of…
The table you should avoid in Vegas
Yahoo – Planning a trip to Vegas to party and strike it rich? Here’s a tip: you’ll have a better chance of winning if you avoid roulette. That’s because casinos have a big advantage in roulette. There are 38 numbers on a standard American roulette wheel: 1 though 36, plus 0 and 00. That means you have a 1 in 38 chance of picking the right number. But, if you bet a dollar and win, you don’t get $38 – you win $35 and keep the original dollar you bet, for a total of $36. That $2 difference between $36…
Why Betting on the Olympics is Not Allowed in Las Vegas
The topic of betting on the Olympics is back again, with the Sochi Winter Games begin this week, and while betting on the events will take place at sports books all over the world, you won’t find a single wagering option available on the Games here in Nevada. That’s because of a small stipulation in Nevada Gaming regulation 22.120-1(a) that states no wagers may be accepted or paid by any book on ‘any amateur non-collegiate sport or athletic event’. That specifically means no betting on the Olympics, a prohibition that resulted from a trade off in early 2001, as Sen….
Why Atlantic City Will Not Catch Las Vegas
The East Coast gambling hotspot of Atlantic City, N.J., is not likely to give its desert rival Las Vegas a run for its money anytime soon, Caesars Entertainment Chairman and CEO Gary Loveman told CNBC on Thursday. “There are two offsetting forces at the moment,” Loveman said in a “Squawk Box” interview. “The business has been contracting over the last few years as a result of so much new competition. [And] it makes it hard for people to invest in that market.” The American Gaming Association said that gambling revenues in Atlantic City totaled $3 billion last year—down 42 percent…
