888 Holdings Fined Over $10 Million from UKGC

The UK Gambling Commission has issued 888 Holdings a fine of more than $10 million as a result of “failings” in its handling of vulnerable customers. In a statement published earlier on the UKGC website, the national regulatory body said the fine represents a record financial penalty and follows the discovery of “significant flaws” in 888’s social responsibility processes. New Jersey online gambling regulators have issued a PokerStars fine of $25k for failing to ensure that out-of-state players couldn’t play on PokerStars New Jersey site. The fine was issued to Canada’s Amaya Gaming, who own PokerStars. Western Union Fined $586,000,000 for Online Gaming Transactions

US financial services company Western Union has agreed to pay a federal penalty of $586 million (€545.2 million) after admitting to clearing transactions related to illegal online gambling activities. According to the Financial Times newspaper, Western Union allowed agents to send money to illicit internet gaming operations in Costa Rica, thus violating US laws regarding anti-money laundering. Billionaire Sheldon Adelson’s casino company is paying almost $7 million to U.S. authorities to end a more than five-year corrupt practices investigation of the firm’s former relationship with a consultant in Macao and China, company and federal officials said Thursday.
