Wynn Las Vegas and Encore Aim for May Open
Don’t look now, but the Wynn Las Vegas and their sister site Encore could actually open as early as this month… if (and it’s a big “if”) Nevada’s phased reopening schedule moves along quickly. Wynn Resorts CEO Matt Maddox said that when the time is right the company will probably reopen both of its Vegas Strip resorts together in a limited capacity. Maddox added that reopening ultimately would depend on public health benchmarks set by state officials and by Wynn’s reopening plan that was released in April. “Clearly, we won’t be opening large mass gathering places — nightclubs or convention…
The New Las Vegas: Temperature Checks, Social Distancing & Face Masks
Get ready for the “New Vegas” when Las Vegas casinos reopen. The Nevada Gaming Control Board is looking at things such as restricting the number of people inside a casino at one time and temperature checks of guests. Control Board Chairwoman Sandra Morgan on Monday said admission restrictions are among the policies the three-member board is considering as the gaming industry prepares for reopening properties after being financially clobbered by closures brought upon by the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. The only time occupancy has been a concern in the past is during special events, such as a property opening,…
New York Casinos Reopen Plans
The reopening of New York casinos will be considered on an ‘individual basis’ according to Governor Andrew Cuomo. The state will take a regional approach, Cuomo said, with least affected regions opening earlier than their downstate counterparts. The specifics surrounding the opening of casinos in New York may fall under the “attractive nuisances” reference he made, where they pose a potentially dangerous situation by attracting people to them from outside the New York region, and then overwhelm the people in that region. “When the state and health organizations feel that the plan meets the necessary standards and protocols, we look…

Thermal cameras have been installed to check guests and employees at every resort entry point, and anyone with a temperature of at least 100.4 would be subject to a second screening and a potential medical assessment. Slot machines will be arranged to allow for social distancing, while table games…

Hello friends, and thanks for streaming another edition This Week in Gambling. Vegas Workers Won’t Be Coronavirus Guinea Pigs
Las Vegas workers are pushing back after their mayor, Carolyn Goodman, recently said that she wanted to reopen the Strip and convention centers before her city ‘dies’. It would seem that employees in Vegas do not share her enthusiasm for putting themselves on the front lines while the pandemic is still not fully under control in Nevada. “We’re not test subjects,” said Alexander Acosta, a banquet bartender with the Caesar Forum Conference Center, NBC News reported. “We’re people. We are employees.” Plans have been drawn up by leadership at Wynn Resorts and MGM, but Mayor Goodman has gone a step…
