Canada Sports Betting to be Legalized
Canada sports betting will follow in the footsteps of its neighbor the US and legalize wagering on sporting events within the next two years. That was the bold prediction made in the Toronto Sun by Harley Redlick, who believes that Canada will need to make such a move in order to safeguard casino jobs and the economy and prevent money from leaking over the border to American gaming locations. Emphasizing the possible financial gulf that could open up between the two countries due to the nature of Canada sports betting laws, he commented: “Even though we are the more liberal…
Canadian Sports Betting Bill Fails
The Canadian parliamentary effort to decriminalize single-game sports wagering suffered an apparently fatal blow Wednesday night in the face of Liberal Party opposition. The House of Commons rejected single-game sports wagering bill C-221 by a close vote count of 156 to 133. Had it been approved, the bill would have been referred to the House’s Committee on Justice and Human Rights. Now, its hopes—and the hopes of single-game sports wagering in the country—are effectively dead for the foreseeable future. New Democratic Party MP Brian Masse, who introduced the bill, had argued that the passage of the bill would have created…

Canadian Online Gambling Ban “Unconstitutional”
The CRTC has told Quebec that the province cannot lawfully order Internet companies to block people’s access to certain websites without first obtaining the federal regulator’s approval. CRTC secretary general Danielle May-Cuconato told Quebec on Thursday about the broadcast regulator’s preliminary decision. The Public Interest Advocacy Centre filed an application with the CRTC in July asking it to state its position regarding the new law passed by the Quebec government. The law forces Internet companies to block citizens’ access to online gambling websites not authorized by the provincial government. Canada’s wireless telecom lobby has challenged Quebec’s legislation in court, calling…

Players pick the winning outcome for the match-ups on a betting card, or opt to randomly choose winners with the ‘quick pick’ feature, with the jackpot being awarded to the players who pick the required amount of correct outcomes. “Sports Pools offers sports fans an…

Canadian online gambling operator Amaya Gaming has officially launched its new daily fantasy sports site StarsDraft.com. Amaya acquired DFS operator Victiv last month and previewed its intention to eventually rebrand the outfit as StarsDraft. Now, on the same day that Tom Brady learned he’d be suiting up for the Patriots when the NFL season kicks off next Thursday, Victiv players learned they’d now be picking NFL lineups on StarsDraft. StarsDraft has reassured players that Victiv’s original management will continue to operate the site but the site is “in the process of integrating the operational expertise of Amaya/PokerStars through many areas…
