Betting on NFL Games May Hit $35 Billion
The opening week of the American football season is in the books, and betting on NFL games is off to a good start as well. This year, our friends at the American Gaming Association forecast that American sports bettors will place about $35 billion in wagers with legal sportsbooks. “With the excitement of another NFL season upon us, Americans are placing their bets with the confidence that the legal sports betting market is prioritizing consumer protection and responsibility” said AGA President and CEO, Bill Miller. The expansion and growth of the legal betting on NFL games across the country is…
Betting on NFL Games at NFL Games?
Last week, NFL owners voted to allow betting on NFL games at sports books located inside of stadiums, while the game is being played. This change is expected to go into effect at the beginning of next season. Currently, the Washington Commanders are the only NFL team with a physical sportsbook located within their stadium premises. The Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants, and New York Jets all have sportsbook located just outside of their stadiums gates. Now, the changes to the rules could prompt teams such as the Cleveland Browns to switch their focus from betting lounges to an on-site…
Star Player Suspended for Betting on NFL Games
Atlanta Falcons star wide receiver Calvin Ridley has been suspended for betting on NFL games. The League announced the suspension earlier this week, and while they are calling it “indefinite” they do confirm that it will be at least the entirety of the 2022 season. The NFL stated that Ridley was betting on NFL games in late November of last year while he was separated from the team for a “non-football illness” and not participating in games. He had left the Falcons team after just five games for his “mental well being”. Even though Ridley was away from the team…
Player Suspended for Betting on NFL Games
It’s happened. A player has been suspended for betting on NFL games. The National Football League had always opposed sports betting, in part based on their concerns that players would do this. And as far fetched as it sounds that an athlete making millions would risk their career on such a move, it’s now happened. Josh Shaw of the Arizona Cardinals placed bets on NFL games while he was in Las Vegas earlier this year. He was not playing in those games, there was no inside information used, and no games were compromised. Still, the NFL has taken swift and…
Football Player Caught Betting on NFL Games
A defensive player for the Arizona Cardinals currently on injured reserve has been suspended for the rest of this season, all of next season and perhaps beyond for betting on NFL games. The league said its investigation of Josh Shaw uncovered no evidence indicating any inside information was used or that any game was compromised, and that no other NFL players or coaches were aware that Shaw was betting on games. “The continued success of the NFL depends directly on each of us doing everything necessary to safeguard the integrity of the game and the reputations of all who participate…
Betting on NFL Games While at an NFL Game?
Could the day come when fans are betting on NFL games while physically at the stadiums? Well, the new Las Vegas Raiders stadium — scheduled for completion in 2020 — sets up an interesting dynamic for gambling and the NFL. Namely, sports betting is legal in Nevada, while daily fantasy sports exists only in a limited fashion via the state’s existing gaming laws. Reporting from ESPN indicates that the state’s casinos and sports books expect mobile Nevada sports betting to be able to take place inside the Raiders’ stadium. That leaves the possibility that you could bet on games while…
