For the first time ever, a state has taken in over $1 billion in sports wagers! The success of sports betting in New Jersey has translated to record breaking revenue, and over $7 billion handle so far in 2021.
To be precise, it was the Atlantic City casinos and racetracks that raked in $1.01 billion together in September. And it’s a new monthly record not just for New Jersey, but for all the states in America.
Casey Clark, Senior VP at the American Gaming Association, said that “New Jersey has always been a strong gaming market. Crossing the $1 billion handle mark in September is an impressive indicator of the appetite of New Jerseyans and Americans across the country who have embraced legal, regulated sports betting.”
The record breaking numbers for sports betting in New Jersey carried over to casino and online gambling as well. Collectively, the $453.5 million in gaming revenue showed an increase of 40% from last year.
