Gaming Intelligence – Singapore’s Casino Regulatory Authority (CRA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the UK’s Gambling Commission, its second agreement with a European regulator following last year’s deal with the Alderney Gambling Control Commission.
The CRA said that the MOU reaffirms the commitment of both parties to collaborate in areas such as information and knowledge sharing, exchange visits and training opportunities.
“This paves the way for the strengthening of the regulatory frameworks of both countries in response to the dynamic gambling landscape globally,” the authority said.
The MOU was signed at the annual International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR) in Oslo, Norway, by CRA chief executive Lau Peet Meng and Jenny Williams, commissioner and chief executive of the UK Gambling Commission.
At the annual event, Lau was appointed as president of the IAGR, the first time an Asian regulator has held the position. He replaces Susan Hensel, director of licensing for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
Lau has served on the IAGR’s board of trustees as a member since 2011 and as vice president during the 2012/2013 term.
“This is a significant endorsement by the international community of CRA’s strong reputation as an effective regulator,” said Lau. “I am honoured by this opportunity to serve the members of IAGR to continue to be an effective voice in shaping gambling regulation across the globe.
“The gambling industry is a truly international one, and as regulators, we have much to gain in strengthening our ties and collaboration across many areas. It is through such international collaboration that we can better serve our communities by ensuring that the industry is robustly regulated to deter crime, ensure integrity, and enhance protection for the vulnerable in our societies.”
