As more and more Las Vegas casinos seem to be saying “no” to poker, it’s nice to hear that the Sahara poker room is about to make a come back! Last week they announced on their Twitter feed last week that they would be opening a brand new seven-table poker room later this month. An official date has not been released.
The Sahara originally closed its 11-table poker room in 2011. The rest of the casino closed a month later, 59 years after its opening in 1952. After a $415 million renovation, it was reopened as the SLS Las Vegas in 2014. The SLS never opened a poker room and switched back to its original name in August 2019.
Given the size of the room, it is unlikely that any high-stakes games will be taking place at Sahara, but it will add another poker option to what is becoming a revitalized north end of the strip. Resorts World Las Vegas is scheduled to open in 2021 and The Drew is on pace to open a year later right across the street.
