Puerto Rico online gambling, land casinos, sports betting and fantasy sports legislation has been approved by the Assembly. The bill has effectively legalized all wagering on professional sports, eSports and fantasy sports at approved brick-and-mortar gambling facilities as well as online all around the commonwealth.
The bill now heads to Governor Ricardo Rosselló, who has been a major proponent of sports betting throughout the process. He believes that getting out ahead even of some U.S. states in offering wagering will help the island’s economy tremendously and help it improve in several areas at various levels. How much money the new industry will bring in and where that money will go still must be observed, though the outlook is favorable.
Rosselló states that a good chunk of the gambling revenue will be pumped back into the community through the funding of a variety of initiatives. All in all, sports betting is expected to be a welcome addition to Puerto Ricos gaming culture as it’s already home to over eight brick-and-mortar casinos and other gambling establishments.
Online gambling in Puerto Rico, when passed, will have some average looking laws. However, there are a few caveats that separate them from the rest of America. First and foremost, the legal age to bet is 21, not 18. Second, residents will have to be on the island to bet, so either a good mobile connection or having your device connected to a WiFi within the Puerto Rico will be a must. Also, in order to place bets you must first register an account in person.
