iGaming Business – Online poker operator PokerStars is to allow customers to purchase Play Money chips as part of a strategy to expand and enhance its poker gaming services.
According to the Pokernews.com website, players on PokerStars can purchase 350,000 Play Money chips for $1.99 (€1.47), or two million chips for $9.99, but the Play Money cashier page said the most popular package is 7.5 million play chips for $24.99.
Play Money tables are popular with players in locations in which access to full online poker is not permitted, such as the US market.
Although no real money is at stake in Play Money games, the amounts wagered in higher-stake games has led to fierce competition between players in the poker community.
PokerStars said that it may introduce higher-stake games as a result of allowing players to purchase Play Money chips.
