Today, Campaign for Liberty issued the following statement from C4L Chairman Ron Paul strongly opposing the “Restoration of America’s Wire Act” (H.R. 707), which would institute a federal ban on online gambling thus trampling on the United States Constitution which gives the state’s sole respecting authority to regulate Internet gambling.
“Under our Constitutional system, the regulation of Internet gambling is solely under the jurisdiction of state and local authorities,” said Ron Paul.
“Modern technology makes it possible to prevent minors and residents of states that do not allow online gambling from accessing online casinos. In a free society, those who have moral objections to gambling have the right to peacefully persuade others to refrain from gambling. What they do not have the right to do is use the government to forcibly push their morals onto others.”
H.R. 707 also threatens every American by giving the federal government another reason to spy on our online activities to ensure we are not gambling online.
The RAWA was also introduced in the 113th Congress but received little support from Members of Congress and the American people.
H.R. 707, however, does have the support of one Las Vegas billionaire, who would stands to benefit financially from a federal ban limiting competition in the gambling industry.
