Just when you think we can celebrate the passage of New York mobile sports betting, up jumps yet another issue. This time in the form of Tribal Gaming. You see, the Oneida Indian Nation has an agreement with the state. That 2013 agreement says that the Tribe is the “exclusive provider” of gaming in a 10-county region. However, mobile betting will be allowed across the whole state. That could be an issue.

The passage of mobile betting seems to require the Oneida Indian Nation to apply for a license to run mobile betting in that 10-county region included in their previous agreement. The tribe wanted a deal that included a guaranteed mobile betting license, and in exchange they would lift their exclusivity for mobile betting. But the Governor rejected that proposal.

The Governor’s counsel argues that as the bets are placed in the location of the computer servers, mobile bets within the 10 counties at casinos outside the zone don’t count against the agreement. And this dispute could not only delay New York mobile sports betting, but ultimately lead to a lawsuit. You can read more at Yogo Net.
