The new budget for the 2022 fiscal year includes plans for New York mobile sports betting. The announcement came as the state legislature and Governor agreed on an arrangement that could allow four online sports books to be operating in the state as soon as September.
The New York Lottery would issue licenses to two mobile betting operators, and they would subcontract licenses to a total of four operators. The state will become the most populous to legalize mobile sports betting, and estimates are it will creating a revenue stream of $500 million a year.
The governor also promised that the state’s three tribes who are involved in gaming would be included in the New York mobile sports betting deal. The agreement also provides a way for three new land based casinos in and around New York City, the lower Hudson Valley, and perhaps Long Island by 2023.
