MIA: Pennsylvania Online Poker

It’s been almost two years since Internet gambling was approved in the Keystone State, approving casino games and Pennsylvania online poker. Now, casinos have gone live on the web and are accepting players… but poker is no where to be found.

There are 7 casinos in the state which have been granted Gaming Certificates by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board in order to have online poker. But players in the state were sadly disappointed that no operator launched a poker site during the first week of operations, raising doubts whether the activity would go live at all.

So what gives? Most likely it’s all about the Benjamin’s. Online slots and table games generate more tax revenue and are easy to regulate. Online poker is a more complex, multi-player game that generates rake… or less cash for the state. Pennsylvania online poker players will most likely have to wait several weeks or longer as regulators have no set a timeline as to when the first state poker website will be live.

And what about PokerStars? Well, they are likely to be one of the first operators to go live when the state is ready. They have been approved by PGCB and have partnered with the land-based Mount Airy Casino.
