iGaming Business – Land-based Maryland Live! Casino has revealed that its new live poker room generated $2.3 million (€1.7 million) during its first month of operation in the US state.
After its launch on August 28, the live poker room went on to make $350,000 in its first four days.
Maryland Live! claimed its poker room is one of the largest in the US as it covers an area of 15,000sq ft and is equipped with 52 poker tables.
The news comes after Maryland lawmakers last year approved an expansion of the US state’s gambling offerings to allow more casinos and live table games. Casinos are also now able to stay open for 24 hours per day.
The fortunes of Maryland Live! and other casinos in the state could improve further if Maryland opts to move forward with its expected legalisation of online poker.
Stephen Martino, director of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, said the subject of legalising online gambling has not come up for discussion, and the state is instead focusing on launching its new casinos and monitoring the success of online gambling markets in Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware.
Martino said this approach would allow Maryland to learn from what other states are doing in order to successfully launch its own online gambling service in the future.
