Back in July we reported on a planned Bellagio expansion along their beloved water feature. That project was detailed in this article, and was supposed to bring 400,000 square feet of new retail shops, along with restaurant boasting amazing views of the fountain shows. But now the project is on hold… perhaps indefinitely. Plans for the Bellagio expansion project, including several renderings, were removed from the Paradise Town Advisory Board’s agenda at request of Bellagio.
Although the project was never officially announced, preliminary plans had been submitted to the board, which serves as a liaison between the Paradise community on the Strip and the Clark County government. The decision to pause appears tied to MGM Resorts’ current focus on ventures outside of Las Vegas, such as pursuing a casino license in New York and partnering on a resort development in Osaka, Japan.
Additionally, Las Vegas is currently experiencing an oversupply of luxury retail space, with new projects like the BLVD shopping complex coming online. Given the market conditions, moving forward with a large-scale Bellagio expansion in retail, dining, and entertainment isn’t considered viable at this time.
Another recent Bellagio expansion refreshed the guest rooms and its world-class amenities—such as the Conservatory & Botanical Gardens, “O” by Cirque du Soleil, and an award-winning casino floor—continue to draw global visitors. As Las Vegas has shifted toward a more diverse entertainment and luxury-driven destination, the Bellagio has remained a centerpiece, adapting while preserving its classic charm.
The Bellagio Las Vegas has long been a symbol of luxury and elegance on the Strip since its grand opening in 1998. MGM Resorts International acquired it in 2000 and has since invested in updates and expansions to keep the property at the forefront of Vegas luxury. And over the years, the resort has continued to evolve. Though recent plans for expansion have been delayed, the Bellagio’s legacy of innovation and elegance ensures its place as one of the most iconic resorts on the Strip.
