This Week in Gambling ~ By Gayle Grant for GamblingPlex.com ~ Not quite sure how to play roulette? We will show you how in our quick guide. Before you begin, make sure you know this: Play for fun. You can’t guess the numbers to come, it’s a game of luck and skills, but mostly luck. There are various strategies that will help you increase the chance of winning, but don’t take the game too seriously.
For beginners combo bets are the best option. This includes even/odd and red/black combinations. You will be better off betting on more than one number at a time.
Last but not least, know the rules. You are going to spend money on this so it is a wise idea to get familiar with the rules before you begin playing for real. So now let’s get started…
.
The Wheel
Even non-players know that there is a wheel with numbers that keeps spinning. There are 38 numbers in total. Depending on the GamblingPlex – Roulette variation you are playing, there will appear different numbers on the wheel, whereas the other will be hidden. For example, European Roulette has 37 numbers. Next, there is also a zero. Once again, depending on the type of roulette variation, there may be one zero, double zero or no zero oat all (No Zero Roulette). The numbers also include a through 36. Another important fact is that the numbers are not placed consecutively. Zeros are green and the rest of numbers are either black or red.
The person who spins the wheel in land-based casinos is the croupier. Another detail worth mentioning is that the wheel and ball spin in the opposite direction.
.
Roulette Board
The roulette board has numbers too. These are the same numbers you notice at the wheel: red and black. The difference between the wheel and the betting board is that the numbers in the board are placed consecutively. They are ordered in three columns, starting at the left. When a player wants to make a bet, they need to place their chips on one specific number.
There also are other bets. For example, you can bet on a column, on the first/second/third dozen, the first/second 18 numbers. Instead of wasting your chance by betting on a number, you have a variety of options here. Other possibilities include betting on odds/evens, reds/blacks, betting on two/four/six numbers.
Generally, these are the basics of roulette.
.
European Roulette
This is one of the most popular roulettes on a global scale. The reason for this is that it is available in many online and land-based casinos across the world. It features only one zero and 37 numbers; it has a low house edge – only 2.63%, which is what makes it so prefered.
French Roulette
This is the country where roulette came from so it is not surprising that they have a roulette variation called after them. The house edge is 1.32%, even lower than that of the European roulette, which is the reason why this variation is not offered very much. In French roulette there is the “La Partage” rule. Players whose ball lands on 0 lose half of the bet only. If they bet on odds or even but the ball hits 0, they can win their bet back. In fact this is called “En Prison” rule. This type of roulette is worth playing as the chance to win money is higher than that of the other variations. Unfortunately, you may not be able to find this type of game outside French-facing casinos.
American Roulette
This variation of roulette is quite common in American casinos. It is pretty much like European roulette but instead of a zero (“0”), it features double zero (“00”), which raises the house edge to 5.26%. The latter lowers the chances of winning. Nevertheless, many players still enjoy this type of roulette.
Rolette Royale
This variation of roulette is quite similar to European roulette but it differs in one feature. Rolette Royale offers a progressive jackpot. Players who want to win this jackpot should be quite lucky. The same single number has to be hit five times in a row in order for somebody to win this thing. It is a difficult task. Because not many people will be able to win the progressive jackpot, it will grow bigger and bigger, which is very appealing to players.
Mini Roulette
This type of game is a mini version of roulette. Which means that there is one zero and 13 numbers in total (half the number of European roulette). Unfortunately, the fact that there are only 13 numbers raises the house edge to 7.56%.

Roulette: Tips
Always have a plan: if you have chosen the strategies that work best for you, make sure you apply them consistently. Else, your system can be ruined and you might lose money.
Follow the veterans: if you play in a land-based casino, the best thing you can do is to keep an eye on the people who know the game well. They surely have their own approaches and strategies that they tried and proved to be successful. If you can, follow their patterns.
If one strategy doesn’t seem to be successful, try another. Don’t be stubborn, if a plan doesn’t work, consider trying a different method. Be flexible. Don’t be afraid of change.
There is no logic to the way that numbers come up. There may be five red ones in a row. Just because there were two odds the last time you bet doesn’t mean that an even number will come next. Numbers appear randomly and independently. Be smart, expect the unexpected.
