A bill stopping small casinos and slot bars from running sports and race books has been signed into law by Gov. Brian Sandoval.

The bill, Senate Bill 416, was sought by the Nevada Resort Association, which represents many of the major casinos in Las Vegas.

Bars and small casinos with restricted slot licenses for 15 or less machines will be prohibited from having kiosks in their business where a customer can place a wager on a sporting event or horse race.

During testimony at the Legislature, representatives of the small casinos said this would mean the removal of 84 kiosks by July 1.

These bars are restaurants have the kiosk to place the bets and customers could open up accounts in these places.

The bill was also aimed at the proliferating places like Dotty’s that had 15 or fewer manufactured slot machines.

The bill requires that in Clark and Washoe counties, these businesses must have 2,500 square feet open to the public, contain a permanent bar and a restaurant that contains seating for at least 25 persons, and a kitchen that is open for at least 12 hours a day to serve hot meals.
