Online-Casinos.com – The problems facing online gambling on sports in the State of New Jersey USA are somewhat like the problems associated with acquiring a license to offer sports betting in Germany. Germany has been extremely slow in granting 20 online sports betting licenses from the German authorities.
The jurisdiction’s gambling authority has been dragging its feet ever since the sixteen provinces in Germany decided to create a federal interstate gambling treaty among themselves which was passed into law and remains a stumbling block in the granting of the sports betting licenses. Apparently forty one applications were filed and almost half of the applicants were called to be interviewed suggesting decisions were being made in the granting of the licenses. The Interior Ministry’s minimum requirements for licensing were not met by any of these applicants.
Officials in the Hesse Province have been given the task of handing out the licenses and making sure the applicants are on the right track. The delays seem to stem from the huge number of initial applications and the lack of comprehensive guidelines that would be compatible with the European Commission’s rules on free e commerce among member nations.
Brian Trembath an industry expert said last March that the officials in Hesse Province had invited ten of the applicants who applied for a license to a meeting to discuss their plans for online sports betting should they receive permission to do so. Other companies that have their applications at the ready were notably upset with this direction the government has gone and have decided to launch proceedings to determine if the process is fair and legal.
BetVictor led the fight which in the court did determine that the Hessian administration did not play the game fairly and was ordered to start over and invite all applicants to the table. These delays suggest that online sports betting in Germany will not get underway until 2014 and possibly 2015.
