German Gaming Service Relaunched

iGaming Business – German commercial broadcaster RTL has relaunched its online gaming platform, Gamechannel.de, by announcing a string of deals with gaming producers.

RTL has penned agreements with the likes of Bigpoint, Electronic Arts and Ubisoft in order to enhance its free-to-play offerings in Germany.

The deals have added strategy games such as ‘Forge of Empires’, ‘The Settlers Online’ and ‘Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances’ as well as racing title ‘Need for Speed World’.

The Hollywood Reporter website reported that the German free-to-play market generated more than $300 million (€230.8 million) in turnover last year, according to the BIU gaming association.

RTL, which has previously focused its gaming development strategy on television programme spin-offs such as ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’, will support the relaunch with a cross-platform advertising campaign to target casual and committed gamers.
