It took a special session and an agreement with the Seminole Tribe, but Florida sports betting has finally and officially been passed! It is the single largest expansion of gambling in the state… but don’t get too excited, yet.
Residents of the state may have a bit of a wait before any actual sports wagering takes place. The agreement must also be approved by Federal regulators. The U.S. Department of Interior has just 45 days to review and approve the deal. The Florida House Speaker added, “Congratulations on an historic compact with the Seminole Tribe…’’.
And the Seminoles really are the winners here. They operate the Hard Rock Casino, and will continue to operate slot machines, blackjack and more at their existing casino, and could also build three new casinos on existing property in Broward County.
