The bill that will regulate Colorado sports betting has passed through the state Senate and will sits on the desk of Governor Jared Polis.
The bipartisan measure, will decriminalize gambling on sports as of May 1, 2020, if signed, and become a ballot measure in Colorado in November. The vote will give citizens the final say in whether the activity is legalized or not.
Citizens of the state get the last say on this issue due to Colorado’s legal landscape which includes a Taypayer Bill of Rights. This requires that citizens must approve any tax increase.
The state would tax sports betting revenue, if approved, at 10% with most of that tax revenue funding the implementation of the state water plan. The department of revenue would act as the sports betting regulatory body, with over site by the gaming control commission.
