Card Player – The poker room at Circus Circus Las Vegas just closed recently, according to reports. Card Player spoke on the phone with an individual from the casino and she said it has been shuttered “indefinitely,” but declined to provide any other information.
The poker room was located near the entrance of the main casino and offered just five cash-game tables. The casino itself was most recently renovated in 2013.
Circus Circus Las Vegas is a hotel and 126,000-square-foot casino located on the Las Vegas Strip. It opened in 1968 and now is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International.
MGM Resorts plans to launch online poker through a partnership with Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment. MGM owns other Strip properties such as Bellagio and Aria.
The news from Circus Circus comes not long after M Resort in Las Vegas closed its poker room, despite having a very successful tournament series recently.
Live poker in Nevada brought in $123,253,000 in 2012, which was a 6.54-percent decline from 2011. It was the smallest amount since 2004, according to research from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Nevada Poker revenues have been declining since 2008.
A significant decrease in the number of card rooms most likely contributed to the revenue plunges for Silver State unrestricted gaming licensees. Other poker room closings in recent years include the Gold Coast, Tuscany and Fitzgerald’s (re-branded as “The D”).
