Vegas Revenue Record Continues into January

The threat from the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus did little to slow down the Vegas revenue record streak. Nevada casinos once again took in over $1 billion in the month of January, marking the 11th consecutive month they’ve done so. A report from the Nevada Gaming Control Board shows that the state won close to $1.1 billion, which was up over 40% from the same time last year. Board members stated that these numbers were a “pleasant surprise” given the spike in Covid cases that took place. Casinos in Las Vegas were responsible for $928 million of that record…

Massachusetts & Oklahoma Sports Betting Updates

Anyone waiting for Oklahoma sports betting just got a ray hope last week. A bill to bring the activity passed from a House Committee recently, and aims to legalize wagers on sporting events at state tribal casinos. This proposed legislation, House Bill 3008, stops short of regulating mobile betting. All transactions would be required to take place in person at a casino. The Bill was proposed by Representative Ken Luttrell, a Republican, who believes Oklahoma sports betting would be good economically for both the state and tribal gaming. The legislation sets aside 10% of net win for the state. Supported of…

Caesars to Sell a Casino on Las Vegas Strip

We’ve reported on the big changes coming to the Las Vegas Strip over the past few weeks, and now you can add another name to that list of casinos. We just don’t know what that will be yet. The Chief Executive Officer of Caesars Entertainment, Tom Reeg, recently confirmed that the company is looking to move one of their casinos on Las Vegas Boulevard, but he did not reveal which property that would be. No More Las Vegas Face Masks!

Yea, you read that headline correctly! There is no longer a Las Vegas face mask requirement for guests at casinos! But before you get too excited and starting booking your next trip, there are a few caveats which everyone should keep in mind. First, Nevada’s announcement of dropping the face mask requirement stated that “Effective immediately, individuals are no longer required to wear a mask in public indoor settings in licensed gaming establishments, unless a local jurisdiction still imposes such a requirement”. This means, of course, that different casinos around the state could still require a mask on their property,…

Tropicana Las Vegas Could be Demolished

Many of you already know that Bally’s Corporation agreed to purchase the Tropicana Las Vegas last April. The sale came to just over $300 million. That agreement was really for the land on the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard than it was the deteriorating hotel and casino. The non-land assets were another $150 million. Now, with the deal set to finalize, Bally’s has publicly stated that they re considering many options for the property. Those include that the hotel and casino will “almost certainly” be rebranded, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the whole site is…
