Las Vegas Travelodge and Strip Mall Close

Several weeks ago we reported on some interesting moves from Tilman Fertitta. Now, the Las Vegas Travelodge and an adjoining strip shopping mall have been closed in what looks like the next step toward a new Strip Casino. Fertitta owns the Golden Nugget Casino on Fremont Street, as well as others around the country. Near the end of April, he purchased 6 acres on Las Vegas Boulevard across the street from City Center. Speculation was that the $270 million purchase could be developed into a new casino. Now, the strip shopping center and Las Vegas Travelodge currently occupying the land…

Vegas Casinos Could Lose Millions on China & Covid

It’s almost as if the pandemic is a distant memory. Las Vegas casinos no longer require masks or social distancing. But thousands of miles away on the other side of the planet, things are not going nearly as well. And now, it could cost some of the biggest gaming companies serious cash. Major American operators like MGM, Wynn, and the Las Vegas Sands, have significant investments in the market and…

Nevada Billion Dollar Streak Continues for 15th Month

The streak of Nevada billion dollar months has now reached fifteen. The state was able to bring in $1.3 billion in gaming revenue during the month of May, falling short of the $1.36 billion in March of this year. Even though the revenue didn’t quite break a record, it was still the most money ever generated in the month of May. Additionally, this year’s numbers were nearly 6% higher than May of 2021, and over 30% higher that the same time in 2019. The continued streak of Nevada billion dollar months was helped by an increase in visitors to Las Vegas,…

Atlantic City Casino Strike Looms Ahead of Holiday

Just as things were going so good, an Atlantic City casino strike threatens to completely derail the huge 4th of July weekend for the popular New Jersey resort town. If the workers do walk off their jobs, tourists can still expect the resorts to remain open, although service may be somewhat lacking. Employees from some of the most popular resorts in the town, including the Borgata, Harrah’s, Caesars, and the Tropicana, are set to walk off their jobs Friday morning if their demands for new contracts with “significant” pay increases are not met.If that’s the case, employees from the Hard…

Las Vegas Strip to be Closed to Cars?

It sounds absurd to think that the Las Vegas Strip could actually be closed to cars. But believe it or not, it’s already happened once this year. And based on the feedback from tourists and locals, it was pretty cool. During the NFL Draft, which took place off the Strip behind LINQ in April, The Strip was closed to traffic for three days. While that was obviously a temporary move, county officials say it was met with a mostly positive response. Now, a state lawmaker has put forth a bill to make the move permanent. If approved, it would close…
