Will Mexico Ban Slot Machines?
Could Mexico ban slot machines? Really? If their Secretary of the Interior, Luisa María Alcalde Luján, has her way, then yes. And believe it or not, the President of Mexico is already on board with the proposal! So what the hell is going on? The Mexican Secretary of the Interior would like to reform and repeal various regulations associated with the Federal Gaming and Sweepstakes Laws. Her goal appears to be an attack on our industry that would reduce the duration of casino permits, while eliminating slot machines altogether. If we do see Mexico ban slot machines, they will be…
Las Vegas Civil Disobedience to Disrupt the City
As Sin City braces for the Culinary Union strike, rumors that acts of Las Vegas civil disobedience will be carried out have leaked. Apparently the Union has decided that the best way to get their point across is not simply to protest and picket, but to block traffic on Las Vegas Boulevard. Like there wasn’t enough issues on The Strip right now? In an effort to grab headlines and elicit sympathy, it seems the the best plan for the Union is to ask for members who are willing to be arrested and go to jail. In fact, they have actually…

Mirage Volcano (Temporarily) Closed for Race
Yes, the Mirage Volcano attraction is coming down. In its place, Hard Rock will put up the monstrosity that will become a guitar shaped hotel. But in the meantime, there’s the big Las Vegas F1 race coming… and that means that the volcano is closed temporarily before it’s closed for good. Yes, the folks at F1 are not the most popular among Las Vegas residents and business owners these days. Not only has constriction of race infrastructure resulted in the city thrown into chaos, but one of the construction workers actually died from job related injuries last month. Additionally, the…
Picket Lines Outside of Vegas Strip Casinos
Last week we warned you of the impending mess headed for Las Vegas Strip casinos and the city. Over the weekend, that mess began to unfold. Just a glimpse of what may be to come if the Culinary Workers Union doesn’t have their demands met. And the timing could not be worse… or better, depending on which side you take. Thousands of the culinary workers lined up outside of eight Vegas Strip casinos to picket, hold up signs, and shout their demands. Wearing their bright red T-shirts and chanted “No contract! No peace!”, which may seem a bit melodramatic, but…
Nevada Gaming Revenue Hits $1.2 Billion in August
Nevada gaming revenue kept up their winning ways in August, extending their winning streak to an amazing 30th consecutive month of generating over a billion dollars. Casinos raked in right at $1.2 billion in revenue, as reported by the Nevada Gaming Control Board. This figure remains largely consistent compared to August of the previous year, albeit a slight decrease from the record-breaking Nevada gaming revenue of $1.4 billion achieved in July. Revenue from the Strip was hit by a decrease of 3.4% in slots winnings, but this was offset somewhat by a gain of over 7% in table game money….
