Las Vegas Bus Drivers Threaten Strike

Don’t look now, but even the Las Vegas bus drivers and mechanics are now getting into the spirit of walking off their jobs. Drivers voted to authorize a strike a few days ago, but did not go as far as setting a date just yet. After rejecting a proposed contract, the Las Vegas bus drivers say that this is not just about the money, it’s about safety concerns. Over the past year there have been nearly twenty violent incidents. “We’ve got drivers out there being spit on, punched, assaulted — driver had a gun shot at his window last week…”…

Vegas Strike Date Closes In

There have been some positive developments, even as the Las Vegas strike date is approaching next week. About 8,000 workers in culinary and hospitality positions are threatening to strike if a new agreement is not reached, which had the potential to effect some twenty resorts during the Super Bowl. Happily, as we believed would happen, some agreements have been reached. It’s a slow process, however, and there may not be time to reach agreements with all the workers before the Vegas strike date deadline of February 2nd. We can take some comfort in knowing that at least six properties will…

Vegas Parking Fees on the Rise

It seems that enough is never enough for some, and Las Vegas parking fees are a perfect example. It’s not enough that the city has had 33 consecutive months of more than a billion dollars in revenue. And it’s not enough than they just raised their Resort Fees. Now, they’re jacking up parking as well. There was a time when Sin City resorts would let guests park for free, just like most normal hotels across the country. It was a small way they could show some customer appreciation. Now, however, Vegas parking fees are at almost every casino around town,…

Record Nevada Gaming Revenue Continues

We haven’t mentioned it in a while, but the billion dollar streak for Nevada gaming revenue has quietly been continuing for over two years. November of last year marked the 33rd consecutive month, in fact. And it was helped a lot by the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Statewide, casinos and sports betting were able to bring in just north of $1.37 billion. That’s a jump of more than 12% rise from the same time last year. The resorts on the Las Vegas Strip accounted for close to 55% of the state’s total revenue. Some interesting numbers within the Nevada gaming…

Resort Fees Explode at MGM Properties

So you don’t like Resort Fees in Las Vegas? You’re not alone. They have been hated by travelers for years, and the resorts don’t give a damn if you like them or not. Most would argue that they are deceptive and should be included in the price. And now the Federal Government agrees, as if that will do any good. Recently, the Federal Trade Commission began work to address these unfair and deceptive fees. They believe that any fees which are not transparent and unavoidable, much the way Resort Fees are implemented, should be changed. And although this may sound…

New Vegas Strike Threat for Super Bowl

Wait… what? Didn’t we just have a Las Vegas strike? Well, sort of. There was the threat of a strike just before the big Formula 1 race back in November, but a last minute deal was able to avert a possible logistical disaster. This time the threat of a strike is just before the Super Bowl, so we have a couple of weeks to work all this out. Don’t get us wrong: The possibility of a Vegas strike is quite real. In fact, the Union has already set a date of February 2nd for their 8,000 workers to walk out….
