Deal Reached to Avoid Super Bowl Strike

Rest easy, my friends. There well be no Super Bowl strike. The union that represents Las Vegas hospitality and culinary workers says it has canceled a strike deadline for one hotel-casino in downtown Las Vegas and reached a tentative agreement with six others. The agreements prevented a walkout on Monday morning, the first day of Super Bowl week in the city. A tentative five-year deal covering around 1,000 workers was reached between the Culinary Workers Union and the Golden Nugget, Binion’s, Four Queens, Fremont, and Main Street, the union reported on Saturday. A provisional agreement to avoid the Super Bowl…

Las Vegas Bus Drivers Strike Averted

Las Vegas bus drivers and mechanics will not initiate a strike, as members of Transit Union have reached a tentative new contract. Representing approximately 1,200 employees, the union’s spokesperson announced the deal via email on Saturday morning. The next procedure involves 1637 members voting on ratifying the contract, as outlined in the email. Throughout the negotiation period, the union had been operating under a temporary agreement, which has now been succeeded by the tentative new contract. “We are very pleased with the outcome and are excited to present the final offer to our membership,” said Terry Richards, Union president. Had…

Las Vegas Strike Down to Three Casinos

The threat of another Las Vegas strike involving culinary and hospitality workers is over… almost. Originally, there were about 20 resorts in danger of seeing about 8,000 workers walk off their jobs. This was a separate work stoppage ultimatum from the union in the past year, with the first coming in October. The deadline for this latest Las Vegas strike was pushed back from Friday to Monday, as progress was being made in talks between the resorts and the union. Several of the original 20 properties were able to reach deals with their workers, and by last week there were…

Bellagio Fountains Hosts Super Bowl Show

Well, the good news is the Bellagio Fountains have been cleared of the disgusting grand stands from the Formula 1 race. So it must be time to get back to normal and get on with life, right? Well, not so fast… there’s more money to be made. Fresh off their appearance in the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the Bellagio Fountains are once again front and center for the upcoming Super Bowl. But this time they won’t be hosting fans. Instead, they will host the CBS Sports studio during the big game. In a town where prostitution is illegal (no matter…

Tropicana Demolition and Close Date Set

Are you ready for professional baseball in Las Vegas? If so, that means a Tropicana demolition, but not a lot of people seem to be upset about that. The building is one of the oldest on the Strip… but not for much longer. Bally’s Corporation owns the resort, and they have officially announced that April 2nd will be the last day of business for the Tropicana. A quick check of their website finds reservations are being accepted up to April 1st… and that’s no joke (April Fools?). As for the Tropicana demolition date, none has been set yet. We’ve heard…
