Record Nevada Gaming Revenue Continues
We haven’t mentioned it in a while, but the billion dollar streak for Nevada gaming revenue has quietly been continuing for over two years. November of last year marked the 33rd consecutive month, in fact. And it was helped a lot by the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Statewide, casinos and sports betting were able to bring in just north of $1.37 billion. That’s a jump of more than 12% rise from the same time last year. The resorts on the Las Vegas Strip accounted for close to 55% of the state’s total revenue. Some interesting numbers within the Nevada gaming…
Resort Fees Explode at MGM Properties
So you don’t like Resort Fees in Las Vegas? You’re not alone. They have been hated by travelers for years, and the resorts don’t give a damn if you like them or not. Most would argue that they are deceptive and should be included in the price. And now the Federal Government agrees, as if that will do any good. Recently, the Federal Trade Commission began work to address these unfair and deceptive fees. They believe that any fees which are not transparent and unavoidable, much the way Resort Fees are implemented, should be changed. And although this may sound…
New Vegas Strike Threat for Super Bowl
Wait… what? Didn’t we just have a Las Vegas strike? Well, sort of. There was the threat of a strike just before the big Formula 1 race back in November, but a last minute deal was able to avert a possible logistical disaster. This time the threat of a strike is just before the Super Bowl, so we have a couple of weeks to work all this out. Don’t get us wrong: The possibility of a Vegas strike is quite real. In fact, the Union has already set a date of February 2nd for their 8,000 workers to walk out….
New Venetian Rewards Launches
There’s a new Venetian Las Vegas loyalty program launching in March, called Venetian Rewards. It will feature both gaming and non-gaming expenditures, enhanced earning transparency for slots, tangible and valuable benefits, and unlock more ways to earn Rewards Points. Venetian Rewards is poised to replace the Grazie Rewards program. Existing Grazie Rewards members will be seamlessly transitioned to Venetian Rewards with their current earned tier and points honored. The program consists of Tier Points, allowing guests to swiftly progress through the tiers and Rewards Points, functioning as a form of currency. Tier Points are not only earned by playing on…
Fremont Street Ban for Certain People
It seems there’s no end to strange things in Las Vegas. But a Fremont Street ban on certain individuals is pretty odd… even for Sin City. But believe it or not, Mayor Carolyn Goodman has already introduced an amendment to the city Municipal Code to do just that. Simply put, the mayor wants to ban people with criminal convictions from the downtown Las Vegas area. That includes Fremont Street and all the way to the Strat. The American Civil Liberties Union is now up in arms over the move, calling it a violation of the First and Fourteenth Amendments. Concerns…
Utah Lottery Proposed by State Legislator
It seems nothing fun ever happens in Utah. There’s skiing and hiking, but not much else, so the idea of a Utah lottery almost seems like the plot for a “Footloose” sequel. But hold on a moment… there is actually a small movement to establish the lotto there… from an actual Legislator none the less! What a way to start the year! Yes, the state of Utah has outlawed or forbidden most everything fun and enjoyable. That’s why their only professional sports team is the Jazz (insert rim shot here). But in these tough economic times, it seems there is…
